Pirates Row Rentals is a company built to assist Seton Hall University students in finding affordable and contemporary off campus housing.
Founder Jason Ferreira began this journey in 2004 when he started helping low income families, at no cost to them, search for and rent apartments in the city of Newark NJ. In a typical real estate rental transaction, the renter would hire a real estate agent to help them search for an apartment and then have to pay that agent a commission upon completion. Jason looked to revolutionize this common practice and instead built a database of renters and then proceeded to charge landlords for his “clients” to move into their homes. This not only took a big financial burden off of low income families, but also helped landlords fill empty apartments throughout the real estate crash that began in 2008, thus averting defaulting on their mortgages.
Assisting hundreds of families over the course of a decade, Jason then turned his focus to Jersey City NJ, where there was a lack of affordable housing for young adults. He opened his first real estate office that worked exclusively providing housing for college students and young professionals. His new mission was to help create a new way of living for young adults, most of which were graduating college or leaving their parents homes and entering a new world of being independent and building their lives and careers. Jason quickly realized there weren’t many options for young adults with little to no credit and not much job history. So he created them and for the next few years helped hundreds of young adults find their first apartment while they worked to complete their education and begin their new careers.
Around the 2016 holiday season, Jason was having dinner at his families home when his younger cousin, who was currently attending Seton Hall University, mentioned at the dinner table how limited, expensive, and neglected the living conditions inside the SHU dorms were. Jason took it upon himself to yet again create an entire new way of living. This time assisting Seton Hall students in finding affordable and desirable housing to continue to pursue higher learning without having to pay an expensive realtor fee/commission.
